Quick Buzz’s Bedtime Stories. Tuck in! This is not a Clinton story, a Biden story, or a flying story. It’s an American story.
When I first arrived to work and live in the White House, I was a young Major who’d never done anything other than fly airplanes and be a headquarters staffer. I was proud to be selected to work in the WH but honestly a little bewildered. As a Military Aide, though, I had access to every inch of the White House and I took advantage.
In my first couple of nights living there, I explored (like any kid would), walking around the most important building in the world. Peeking into corners, looking at all of the incredible art, checking out the china in the “China Room,” and saying ‘hey’ to the Secret Service Agents and the White House Medical Unit peeps.
One night, I walked into the “Library Room” downstairs in the residence. It’s a smallish room with bookshelves on 4 walls. I started looking at the books. Pulling them out slowly and looking at the author, the subject, and the year. I finally pulled out one and opened to the first page. It was dedicated to President George Washington in old English and Old English handwriting. I couldn’t believe I was holding that book in that building in my hands. I had no idea what my next two years would hold but that was cool.
Good night.
